Reiki Treatment Guide: What to Expect

Preparing for Your Session

Before your session begins, it's important to wear comfortable clothing and try to be well-hydrated. Your Reiki practitioner will ask you to complete a brief intake form to understand your needs and expectations.

During the Session

1. Introduction and Relaxation: Your practitioner will start with a brief discussion about Reiki and the session's goals. You'll then be asked to remove your shoes and lie down on a massage table (or a recliner, for added accessibility), fully clothed, with optional blankets, pillows, or heating for added comfort.

2. Initial Energy Assessment: The practitioner may perform a quick energy assessment, scanning your body to identify any areas of tension or imbalance. This includes communication and possible questions from your practitioner.

3. Hands-On or Hands-Off Healing: The practitioner will begin the Reiki treatment, either gently placing their hands above various parts of your body. Common areas include the head, shoulders, stomach, knees, and feet. Each position is held for several minutes.

4. Sensation and Relaxation: During the session, you may feel warmth, tingling, or a gentle pulsating sensation. It is common for people experience deep relaxation.

5. Duration: Florence School of Reiki offers one hour and two hour sessions. We always recommend beginning with the one hour long session.

After the Session

1. Grounding and Feedback: After the session, the practitioner will help you slowly reawaken and ground yourself. You may discuss any sensations or emotions you experienced.

2. Hydration and Rest: It is recommended to drink plenty of water and rest after your session to help your body integrate the Reiki energy. Our recommendation is to simply listen to your body. There has been plenty of people who feel energized from their session.

3. Follow-Up: Depending on your needs, the practitioner may suggest a series of sessions to maximize the benefits of Reiki and better meet your goals. Some people need consecutive treatments while others need monthly treatments, or even treatments on an as-needed basis.
